About us
The story behind the work

Every practice begins with a person.

In Kim's words: how compassion became her path out of burnout, and why she now guides others along it.

Kim speaking to a group
01

It started with exhaustion.

"I came to this work the way many people do: through my own stress, striving, and the quiet exhaustion of caring for everyone but myself."

02

Practice didn't ask for more.

"Contemplative practice didn't ask me to do more. It taught me how to recover, steady my nervous system, and respond to life with more clarity and kindness."

Kim leading a session
03

So I trained to share it.

"I certified in Compassion-Based Resilience Training through the Nalanda Institute, a program developed at Columbia and Cornell and taught since 1998."

Now the circle is yours.

"Small groups, in a warm and unhurried space where every voice belongs. My job is to make the science accessible and the practice doable."

Communities

Bring resilience to the people you serve. We partner with nonprofits, faith groups and community organizations to deliver accessible, trauma-aware training.

For communities →

Resilience is not pushing harder. It's meeting yourself with compassion.

The science is clear, and so is the practice.

Why it matters

Burnout isn't a personal failing. It's a signal.

The modern nervous system is running a marathon with no finish line. For professionals especially, chronic stress has quietly become the baseline, and willpower alone can't fix a physiological problem. Mindfulness and compassion practice works with your biology, training the mind and body to down-regulate, recover, and respond with clarity instead of reactivity.

77%

of professionals report experiencing burnout at their current job.

83%

of US workers suffer from work-related stress that follows them home.

3×

higher risk of heart disease linked to chronic, unmanaged stress.

8wks

is enough for contemplative training to measurably reshape stress response.

Figures reflect widely reported workplace-wellbeing and stress-physiology research (Gallup, APA, and contemplative-science studies). Shared to illustrate scale, not as medical advice.

Where many arrive

  • Wired but exhausted, tired and unable to switch off
  • Short fuse, foggy focus, disrupted sleep
  • Guilt about "not coping" despite doing everything
  • Compassion for everyone but themselves

Where the practice leads

  • A nervous system that recovers, not just endures
  • Steadiness under pressure and clearer decisions
  • Self-compassion as a skill, not a slogan
  • A community that practices alongside you

In their words

What past participants share.

In combination with learning about the science of meditation, I learned to meditate in a way that alleviates anxiety...The benefits are great—beyond estimation.

CBRT participant

I loved the feeling I had during and after each meditation session. I also felt a great sense of community with the other [participants] present.

CBRT participant

I feel much happier and able to cope with life’s changes. I feel so grateful to have been able to participate in the [training].

CBRT participant

Although I have done some form of mindfulness practice for years, the study jump-started me into beginning a more serious meditation practice.

CBRT participant

Kim was a wonderful guide, demonstrating the techniques thoroughly and practicing with us. She consistently asked for our feedback to make sure the techniques worked for us, and she facilitated thoughtful conversation after each meditation, helping students feel comfortable sharing their experiences!

Questions

FAQs

Everything people usually ask before joining a cohort. Still wondering about something?

What is Compassion-Based Resilience Training (CBRT)?

CBRT is a 9-week, evidence-based training from the Nalanda Institute, developed and tested at the university hospitals of Columbia and Cornell. It brings together mindfulness, compassion, imagery and breath-work to help you reduce stress, prevent burnout and build resilience that lasts.

Do I need any meditation experience?

Not at all. The course works for complete beginners and for people who already practice. Every technique is taught step by step, and Kim checks in often to make sure the practices are working for you.

Who is the cohort for?

Anyone carrying chronic stress or feeling close to burnout: professionals, caregivers, parents, helpers and leaders. Teams and organizations can also bring CBRT in-house through our Business and Communities programs.

How does the 9-week format work?

You meet live on Zoom once a week for a 1.5-hour session in a small group of 10 to 15 people. Each session blends teaching, discussion and two guided meditations, with short practices to carry into your week.

How much does it cost?

We use a community-contribution model: Sponsor $450, Supporter $350, or Accessible, a sliding scale of $250 or less. Every tier gets the same full program, and no one is turned away for inability to pay.

How do I reserve my seat?

Pick your contribution tier on the Reserve page, then complete your donation through our secure Zeffy form. Kim will then email you a short registration questionnaire and coordinate the cohort schedule with you directly.

Why do you use Zeffy?

Zeffy is a free fundraising platform built for nonprofits, so your full contribution goes to the program. At checkout Zeffy may suggest an optional tip to support their platform. It is entirely up to you and can be set to $0.

What if I can't afford it?

Please reach out before registering at mindfulresilienceinitiative@gmail.com. Contribution adjustments and full scholarships are handled confidentially on the honor system, and full fee waivers are available.

What if I need to cancel?

Full refunds are given for cancellations made at least 7 days before the first session. After that, contributions become non-refundable and are treated as a donation that funds future scholarship seats. See our policies for details.

Is CBRT a replacement for therapy?

No. CBRT is an educational, skills-based training and is not a substitute for medical or mental health care. If you are unsure whether it is right for you right now, book a free 15-minute call and we can talk it through.

Can I talk to someone before I commit?

Yes, please do. Book a free, no-pressure 15-minute call with Kim to ask anything and see whether the cohort is a good fit.
